Raining Cats and Dogs

Today I woke up and heard The Carers saying it was ‘raining cats and dogs’. I am definitely not going outside, then, for my early morning constitutional, I said to myself, as I don’t want to be knocked out by either an airborne cat or dog person. But when I looked out of the window expecting to witness this wondrously surreal sight all I could see was, well, water falling from the sky. So, on reflection, what a typically idiotic Human expression! Is it a corruption of French, or Danish, or Norwegian, or any other of the one-time invaders of these dismally damp islands, or perhaps of London Cockney rhyming slang? In any case, I am definitely not going outside, as I am not taking any chances on being clobbered by a free-falling Rottweiler, or – horrors! – getting wet, and shall content myself with scratching in the litter box.
