Tuti’s Blog #61 – Prestidigitation

Yey!! The old Carer’s website is now up and running. This means I am now talking to real Bloggers instead of imaginary ones – well, I imagine I am talking to someone even if the reality is that I am talking to myself… It’s definitely lonely out here for a housebound cat person, but utterly depressing to be dependent on Human digital technology. Even the old Carer gets exasperated. Where’s the bloody on/off switch, she shouts, when wrestling with the central heating. There is no on/off switch. You have to go through the coding process, says the young Carer. Where’s the manual? she asks. You have to go online. I’ve got no time for this bullshit, I just want an on/off switch, she screams. We go through the same ritual every time a new digital appliance arrives in the house, and let’s not dwell on new computer stuff that is incompatible with existing equipment. This is pathetic, she says, I used to be able to fix anything from a typewriter to a motorcycle, now I am hostage to fat cat corporations who don’t pay their taxes but force us to buy their impenetrable digital trickery… and, by the way, do you know my new iphone does everything but allow me to make and receive phone calls? I am going to pass over the ‘fat cat’ slur…
